Timber frame on the farm is the only way to go
A year after getting married Peter and Anne Lynch began construction
of their first home in the middle of 2002. Peter says the reason
they chose timber frame is simple. “I worked in the construction
trade in the USA and in New Zealand and all the projects I worked
on were timber-frame and of the highest quality standard.”
After renting for a while after they got married Peter and Anne
decided they wanted to build their own house on the family farm
in Abbeylara County Longford. Peter knew that he would choose his
favoured method of construction, timber frame. “To start with
it is a much cleaner and faster method of construction and it is
also a much better environment to live in.”
The Lynes did their research before deciding on which company
they wanted to build the house. “We took a very serious approach
to the whole process and after talking to a number of different
companies and visiting completed houses we knew that Century Homes
were the best company. All their materials were 100% quality and
the technical expertise and customer service was second to none.”
Their house is 1975 sq feet with two sitting rooms a kitchen, bathrooms
and four large bedrooms, with the master bedroom en-suite.
While building your own home is a quite a stressful process Peter
& Anne said that it could not have worked out better for them.
“We had our own plans and Century made the timber frame to
suit them. They even made a number of very helpful additions to
our plans, which mean we now have a better house.”
Ultimately the Lynches are delighted with their house which was
completed in little over seven months. “Our timber frame house
is the one we always wanted. It was clean and quick to build and
is warm all year round.”
